Father's Day
Historical Context
Father's Day (Deň otcov) falls every year on the third Sunday of June in Slovakia. It is observed culturally but is much less prominent than Mother's Day.
Father's Day arrived in Slovakia later than Mother's Day and remains a less commercially developed observance. The third-Sunday-of-June date follows the international convention. In recent decades, Slovak retail and media have given the day more attention, gradually building public awareness.
Smaller gestures than Mother's Day: a card, a meal, sometimes a small practical gift. Family lunches are the most common observance, often combined with the start of summer outdoor activities. The day is much less embedded in school programmes than Mother's Day.
