The spring break 2026 runs from 14 February to 22 February.
Jarné prázdniny is the spring school break, a five-day break (Monday to Friday) staggered across three regional groups. The 8 kraje are divided into West, Central, and East groups, with the order in which each group goes rotating annually.
The staggering predates 1989 and is a tourism-management measure rather than a legal one: it is set yearly through the Pedagogicko-organizačné pokyny under the framework of vyhláška 231/2009 Z. z., not in primary legislation.
Activities during the spring break
Spring break overlaps the late ski season. Jasná in the Low Tatras is Slovakia's largest resort, with around 50 km of pistes topping out below Chopok at 2,024 m.
Donovaly, marketed as the country's most family-friendly resort, has a 10,000 m² Fun Park advertised as Central Europe's largest kids' learning area. Štrbské Pleso in the High Tatras (operated by Tatry Mountain Resorts alongside Tatranská Lomnica) typically stays open through April. Aquaparks at Tatralandia, Bešeňová, and Aquacity Poprad are popular for non-skiing families.
Many families travel to Austria, Italy, or Czechia for skiing, or to escape to warmer destinations. The east-group break in early March often coincides with melting snow at lower elevations, pushing skiers to higher resorts.
Practical info about the spring break
Schools and school-based childcare are closed only for that region's scheduled week. Workplaces operate normally throughout.
Holiday camps (jarný tábor) are widely available and tend to fill up early, since registration commonly opens in November or December. Ski resort prices peak during the peak group week, whichever group falls in mid-February.

The 3-group rotation is a deliberate tourism-management policy with socialist-era origins, dating back to the 1980s: if all 8 kraje took spring break in the same week, ski resorts and family attractions would be overwhelmed. Each group cycles through "first slot, second slot, third slot" over a 3-year period.
Bratislavský kraj (Group A) goes first in school year 2025-2026, third in 2026-2027, and second in 2027-2028.
