About Slovak public holidays
Slovakia distinguishes between state holidays (štátne sviatky) and days of rest (dni pracovného pokoja) under Act No. 241/1993. Most are paid days off, but the 2024-2026 consolidation packages stripped several holidays of their paid-day-off status while keeping their formal designation. Three holidays shift with Easter: Good Friday, Easter Monday, and the Easter school break.
When a public holiday falls on a Saturday or Sunday, no compensation day is granted. If it falls on a Tuesday or Thursday, that creates a bridge day opportunity: one leave day for a four-day weekend.
